Miyoshi Koi Farm - Jumbo Koi Harvest
Koibito Japan was invited by Miyoshi Koi Farm to watch one of their Jumbo Koi Harvests. Miyoshi Koi Farm stocks mostly Dainichi Bloodline koi, and plenty of them are Jumbo size!
Miyoshi Koi Farm has been in business in Kawanoe City, Shikoku Island raising Dainichi koi from tosai to Jumbo size for 40 years or more. The current owner Mr. Shozo Miyoshi, otherwise known as "Sho-chan" took over from his father some years ago now, and has had success in many large koi shows in Japan including the ZNA and All Japan koi shows, most recently seeing one of his koi win the Jumbo A prize in the 2009 ZNA.
Differeing from many koi farms we visit Miyoshi Koi Farm doesn't breed any koi. Instead they focus on raising koi from Tosai to Jumbo (over 85 cm). This has been the way of Miyoshi Koi Farm for many years, and is a successful formula for them.
The farm, although smaller than most in terms of amount of sales ponds at their main facility, is stocked with plenty VHQ Kohaku, Sanke and Showa, as well as one or two pieces of other varieties. The farm also boasts a collection of some of the biggest mudponds in Japan with a total of 8 ponds the same size as the one featured in the photos and videos below, as well as many others for raising younger koi.
Sit back and enjoy the videos, and photos from what has to be the most interesting harvest Koibito Japan has seen this year so far.
