Miyoshi Koi Farm - 2nd Jumbo Koi Harvest

Koibito Japan was invited again to watch Miyoshi Koi Farm's second Jumbo Koi Pond harvest, of course we accepted happily! :-)

Another early departure from Okayama, and another hour or so trip in the car to Shikoku Island to join Miyoshi san at one his Jumbo Mudponds. This time round was very similar as the week before's harvest, (see http://www.koibito-japan.com/news/latest-news/miyoshi-koi-farm-jumbo-koi-harvest). This time another 70 or so peices of large koi were pulled from his huge mudponds without a hitch. Plenty of over 80 cm gosanke koi were harvested, as well as some really large Hi-Utsuri, Shusui and Kujaku of around 80 cm in size.

One thing that was different was the tension in the air...you could obviously tell that in this mudpond was a koi Miyoshi San was really really keen to see. After speaking with Miyoshi san, we found out that this final pond contained, a very special Jumbo Kohaku. Mr. Shigeru Mano from Dainichi Koi Farm, who has know Miyoshi san for many years, visited Miyoshi Koi Farm in Spring this year to see the koi that Miyoshi san was waiting for. At that time Shigeru San called it "Super Kohaku".

Whether or not that is a name that will remain is yet to be seen, but as a 6 year old koi which measures in at a grand 88 cm, the future is looking good for this koi. (Shown in the final photo below, not a great photo I know, but all I could take in the small bowl it was in at the time). From the photo you can get an impression of the scale of this koi, but it's skin quality, and luster is unfortunately not carried over in the photo. This is a really nice koi, which you will more than likely be seeing in koi shows in Japan in the next couple of years.
