Oyama Koi Farm - Show Quality 3-sai Showa
Oyama Koi Farm has been busy producing Goshiki over the last couple of years, thankfully for us, he hasn't forgotten about breeding beautiful Showa... :-)
Last week the Hiroshima Nogyosai was held. For those of you not in the know, the Hiroshima Nogyosai is up there amongst the top koi competitons in Japan. But unlike so many other shows it is reserved for breeders only...meaning customer's fish are not allowed at the show. Other shows like the ZNA Koi Show, All Japan Combined Show, Rinyukai Show, Kyushu Show..etc are a combination of either amateur, or amateur and breeder fish. The Nogyosai shows, (Niigata included) are where the breeders really get to show other breeders and the public what they have to offer.
"Nogyosai", meaning Agricultural Festival, are commonly held across Japan in Autumn, and are of varying sizes and for various purposes. The main two in Japan for Koi are the Niigata Nogyosai, and the Hiroshima Nogyosai. The Niigata Nogyosai is the older and bigger of the two...but that doesn't mean that Hiroshima is not important. With breeders like Omosako, Takigawa, Tamaura, Oyama, Taniguchi, Sakai, Oishi...amongst those entering fish every year, you know the show is packed full of HQ koi.
We timed it so we got to Oyama san before any other customers after this year's Hiroshima Nogyosai. Always pushing himself to create better koi...Oyama san is juggling many projects himself now, with his Goshiki, Showa and Kohaku lines always selling well with Koibito Japan's customers.
The 3-sai, 62 cm Showa he took to the 2009 Hiroshima Nogyosai, (pictured above) really made a strong impression with one of our customers, as well as with the judges on the show. This beautiful koi took the Overall Champion for the 65 bu division at the Nogyosai.
This koi will now be kept at Oyama Koi Farm and prepared for the 2010 Wagagoi Showa, to be held in Tosu City, Kyushu. Keep an eye out for this fish next year...
