Momotaro Auction - May 28th 2010 - PhotosMomotaro Koi Farm held their final auction of the 2010 Spring Season today, as always Koibito Japan was present, placing bids for our customers...

Starting at 10 a.m. with viewing before hand, the 60 koi on offer today were in tip-top condition, having grown between 1 cm and 3 cm since their photos were taken on April 27th to produce the auction photos.

There were buyers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and of course some Japanese dealers, all in all around 30 people attended including Koibito Japan.

Koi bought at this auction will be kept at Momotaro Koi Farm over the summer for free, and then all 60 koi will be entered into the 3rd annual Momotaro Koi Show. Prizes for the winning koi at this show are "Bizen Yaki"...(a traditional type of Japanese ceramic, made only in one small town about 20 kms outside of Okayama City). The most famous maker of these unique ceremics is called Isezaki San, and he is the current National Living Treasure for making "Bizen Yaki", he is also a friend of Maeda San, owner of Momotaro Koi Farm, who inturn is a big fan of "Bizen Yaki" having many pieces at his home and some of his restaurants.

Koi from today's auction held a total average price of 460,000 yen, with the most expensive Koi selling for 2,500,000 yen to a Japanese buyer. It was a very exciting auction, we hope you enjoy the photos! Koibito Japan is looking forward to seeing the koi we got for our customers come out the mudpond in Autumn 2010...now we just have to wait!
